BHS Vocal / Life Skills class to host FREE musical March 5

March 04, 2026

The barn doors are swinging open once again at Blackwell High School — and this time, there’s a whole lot of “Oops!” echoing across the pasture.
Blackwell High School’s Life Skills and Vocal Department are teaming up for another heartwarming musical production that promises laughter, toe-tapping tunes, and plenty of barnyard charm: “E-I-E-I Oops!”
Under the direction of Michaela deBrugge, alongside Jennifer Turner, Kacie Grace, Joey Culver,  Debbie Scritchfield, and Jamie Buxton, the show will take the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the BHS Auditorium.

Best of all, admission is free, making it the perfect family-friendly night out.
The Journal-Tribune had the chance to sit in on a rehearsal last week, and if first impressions are any indication, audiences are in for a delightful treat. Running a brisk and energetic half-hour, the production tells the story of Old MacDonald (Gavin Nelson) and his ever-encouraging wife, Mrs. Old MacDonald (BHS senior Taylon Backus). Together, they attempt to coax their surly cow (Daelin Davis) out of his shell — and into a proper “moo” — with the help of an enthusiastic and musically inclined barnyard crew.
And what a crew it is.
Quentin Wilson appears as the Farmer in the Dell, while Kolby Linck takes on the role of Bingo. Kenzi Johns plays Hi Ho, joined by Jacob Weber as Derio. BHS senior Breannah McCurry steps into the shoes of Bo Peep, with KiLeigh McCurry as Wander and BHS senior Ally Newland as Wonder. Isac Murphy brings energy as Rooster, while Rylee Spiva and Xoey McCann fluff things up as Fluff and Puff. BHS senior Paige Culver portrays Miss Mule, Emily Gaither charms as Cat with the Fiddle, and Dante Richardson rounds out the cast as Barn Cat.
The musical numbers are as playful as the plot. The title song, “E-I-E-I Oops!” sets the tone with lively humor. “Ham It Up!” performed by Kenzi Johns and Jacob Weber adds a dose of comedic flair. “Lost Sheep,” featuring KiLeigh McCurry and Ally Newland, brings a sweet moment of heart. “Cute Chicks,” with Xoey McCann, Rylee Spiva and Isac Murphy, delivers plenty of personality, and the finale, “The Whole Barnyard is Singin’!” brings everyone together for a joyful curtain call.
More than just a musical, the production showcases the collaboration, creativity and confidence of students working together to create something special. From expressive performances to enthusiastic choreography, the cast radiates pride and excitement.
If you’re looking for a charming, feel-good evening filled with music, laughter and a few well-earned “moos,” “E-I-E-I Oops!” is sure to deliver.
